I admit it. I was a teenager in the 70's.
I don't think I ever missed an episode of THE MONKEES.
And I never stopped singing I'm A Believer even before it became popular again with SHREK.
My teenage crushes included Davy Jones, Bobby Sherman, David Cassidy and even Shaun Cassidy. There may have been more, but these guys had a prominent place on my bedroom wall. I still have my first ever LP (Portrait of Bobby). I can't tell you how many times I played Bubblegum & Braces or Julie Do You Love Me. The LP is warped from the sunshine that beat down on it while we danced in the cool grass on hot summer days in the back yard. My girlfriends and I would stick the cord through the corner of the window screen and set the portable record player on the bush outside my bedroom.
I also remember that the first time I heard SUGAR SUGAR was on the 45 I cut from the back of a Super Sugar Crisp cereal box. I also heard The Jackson Five and The Osmonds the same way.
I'll miss Davy Jones. Wherever you are Davy, have a groovy time!

CARE TO SHARE YOUR TEEN IDOL? Come on, I know you had one!
I watched the Monkees, but I liked Peter. Also, Harrison Ford in Star Wars and Scott Baio too.
ReplyDeleteHarrison Ford...doesn't matter how old I am. >>sigh<<
DeleteThanks for chatting, Tammy!

My two biggest crushes were Donnie Osmond and Shaun Cassidy. The rest were just wimps.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely adored THE HARDY BOYS. For some reason, I never got into the Osmonds or the Jacksons. Liked their music, but never hung their pictures on the wall.
DeleteThanks for stopping by Linda!

Mine was not your usual teen idol...I was absolutely in love with Steve Sax, second baseman for the Los Angeles Dodgers in the early 80s. :)
ReplyDeleteVery cool, Jen !!
DeleteVery cool!

Okay, so I am older than all of yoiu...first there was Pat Boone, then Ricky Nelsen, and lastly Elvis. He won me over with the movies!!!! I still watch any of their movies I come across.
ReplyDeleteThat's awesome, Connie. I liked the Elvis movies...even like the beach blanket movies. >>grin<<

It was the Monkey's all the way for me. Loved Day Dream Believer! I had a whole large envelope of there pictures that I found when I got married and threw them away. Now I wish I had kept them
ReplyDeleteLast Train to Clarksville or I'm a Believer...those were my favorite "Monkee" tunes. But I did love Davy...he was just so darn cute.

I was a Davy Jones and Bobby Sherman fan. Makes us all seem old when you realize that Davy Jones was 66 when he passed away.
ReplyDeleteOld? Naw... CLASSIC !!

Ah, Angi, I know we've kind of talked about this already, and you know I was right there with you when it came to Davy and Bobby. (Julie, Do ya Love Me was my all-time fave Bobby song.) Add to them Paul McCartney and John Lennon, Neil Diamond and remember Mark Lindsay of Paul Revere and the Raiders? and everyone knew I was a total pop star geek. I still kind of swoon when I hear Davy sing "I Wanna Be Free," "Shades of Gray," and "Look Out, Here Comes Tomorrow." I agree -- thanks, Davy! And thanks, Angi, for a great trip to the past :-)
ReplyDeleteWhy am I tearing up?
DeleteOH !! Everyone, don't miss Liz's debut book THE RANCHER & THE ROCK STAR. You can catch an interview with my sister from another mother next Tuesday on GET LOST IN A STORY. (She's giving away a book!)

I loved all of them, too. Did you watch Bobby Sherman in Here Come the Brides? I loved that show! And his couple of appearances on the Partridge Family ...
