The Scoop from Julie Miller (February)

 Dear Readers,

Whether you’re living it or reading it—or hopefully, both!—February is the month for romance.
In the spirit of Valentine’s Day, I wanted to share a link to a free Precinct novella titled BRAVO TANGO that you can read at http://www.harlequin.com/articlepage.html?articleId=1064&chapter=1.  This is a completely free Julie Miller romantic suspense story, featuring some characters you may know from my other Precinct books.  Justin Grant is a bomb squad cop working on a dangerous undercover case to track down a serial bomber—and his mission just got even more complicated when he inadvertently gets ER doctor Emilia Rodriguez involved with his investigation.  Now he has to keep both the lovely Emilia and Kansas City safe.  You can read the novella online or print it off and read it at your leisure.

Could this be Justin Grant?
Some news to share—I just learned that my good buddies B.J. Daniels < http://bjdaniels.com/>  and Delores Fossen < http://www.dfossen.net/>, both bestselling authors, and I will presenting a workshop at the Romance Writers of America annual conference in San Antonio this July!  Our workshop is titled SCREAM BLOODY MURDER: How to Pace Romantic Suspense.  With over 150 books between us, I think we might know what we’re talking about .  If you’re going to the conference this summer, I hope you’ll join us.

In the meantime, I’m finishing up my current work in progress.  The working title is KIDNAPPED BY A COP, but since it’s a holiday story set for later this year, I know the title will change.  But that’s another reason to read the free online novella, BRAVO TANGO, I mentioned above… because the heroine’s youngest sister in BRAVO TANGO, Teresa Rodriguez, is the heroine.  She’s all grown up and starring in a romantic suspense adventure of her own with wounded DEA Agent Charles Nash, whom some of you may remember from last summer’s book, ASSUMED IDENTITY.

This month I’m continuing to revisit some of my favorite stories and share them with readers.  Be sure to check out my Contests & Fun Page http://www.juliemiller.org/contests_&_fun.htm to read an excerpt from BEAUTY AND THE BADGE.  I’ve always loved a good Beauty & the Beast romance.  I hope you’ll enjoy this excerpt, too.  And enter for a chance to win one of my backlist titles!

Happy Reading!
Julie

So there's my February newsletter!  What's new with you?  New job?  New hobby?  New nail color you're dying to try?  New purse?  (I'm loving my hubby's gift of a new Vera Bradley bag--the colors and designs of their work really speak to me!  Plus, it has lots of pockets to hold everything I need.  And the length of the purse straps are just right to slip onto my shoulder without hanging down too far.)

I'll give away a copy of a book from my backlist--winner's choice! (Although certain titles I only have in ebook or a U.K. edition)--print or ecopy--to one lucky poster!

  1. Nothing new here right now, which can actually be a very good thing. It means that life is humming along nicely.

  2. Okay, are you guys able to read what I posted here? When I view it, all I get are the pix and links, but the words in the post itself are black ink on black background for me.

It looks fine when I preview, but when I post, I can't see it. If readers can't see it, either, then I'll take this one down and repost it.

    Thanks!
    Julie

    Thanks!

  4. I can see the post, Julie, no problems! So exciting about your RWA workshop. I don't know yet if I'll be able to attend the conference, but if I do you can bet I'll be at that workshop!

    1. Hey, Janie! Thanks for letting me know. I went back in and played with the formatting. Must have something to do with cutting and pasting instead of typing directly into the blog form.

I hope you can make it to RWA. It was fun hanging out with you last summer in Atlanta. But I know you have lots of books to write, too!

  5. Hi Julie,

I can see the post with no problems :)

Thanks for the updates. Wish I can attend your workshop. I've always been fond of writing fiction (esp Suspense). Started when I was a little girl. I used to make up stories and draw pictures for them too. Though I never explored writing much before, when I was in my final year of Uni I took to writing for fun as a stress buster. Losing my self in a make believe world to get out of the real one for a bit. I've lately been considering taking creative writing courses. Don't know if I will yet. I'm still trying to find a steady platform in my career so my focus has been there!

I have taken to something else this new year. I love to edit photos/videos and enjoy making scrapbooks. But I've never tried my hand at taking videos/photos myself. I've always loved taking a camera in my hand, I can envision lots of beautiful shots in my mind but for some reason I've never taken that to a camera for professional photography. I bought a camera last month and I'm determined to learn the ways of playing with camera and its settings. Am excited!

Looking forward to your new books!

    Kind Regards,

    Daya G.

  6. Nothing really new my way... just dealing with a bunch of male cats peeing all over my house and yard... they were coming around and meowing at all hours... the smell was awful... spent two days cleaning everything off... last night was the first night in almost 5 days that they did not come back... all because there is a feral cat that comes around... otherwise enjoying some wonderful weather and some great reads lately!
    Happy February & Early Valentine's Day! ;)

  7. Can see your post just fine; thank you.
I started a new job outside the home (in addition to my part-time one inside the home). Was supposed to be 3 hours/day, but I've been working 8 hours/day since I started two weeks ago, plus working at home afterwards.
Am a tad tired, but I'm getting better at multitasking/organizing my hours. Much better....

  8. Thanks for letting me know, Laney4. When I opened it up this morning, all I could see were the pix and the orange links--the rest was black. Glad I could fix it w/o the technology getting the better of me. ;)

Hope the hours settle down for you. 8 hrs/day plus more at home sounds like full-time work to me! Take care.

  9. Looking forward to the next book as always.
New around here lately seems to include doctors. Would love to feel totally healthy again. Then I think of how blessed I am and don't feel so bad!

  10. Laura AKA Loves 2 Read RomanceFebruary 11, 2014 at 9:01 AM

Not anything new here except it's the beginning of the year thus I am being buried by taxes. LOL every year it seems worse but I think it is probably the same and I just can't remember. Anyways I love revisiting characters and am glad to hear Charles will get his own HEA. I have never attended a RWA conference so I won't get to hear the seminar but I know you guys will be great! Say Hi to Maggie for me!!

    1. Maggie always appreciates the shout-out, Laura. ;) I don't envy your job. Just doing my own tax work drives me nuts. I can't imagine the inundation at this time of year for you guys. Pace yourself. Take care.

  11. And the winner is... bn100! Congratulations! Maggie nosed your name out of the pile and selected you as the blog post winner. What I need from you is an email with your choice of book from my backlist titles (all are listed at www.juliemiller.org), and whether you want it in print or ebook format. (Oh, and if you prefer print, you might give 2 or 3 choices to make sure I have a copy to send) I'll also need your snail mail address for a print book, or your email address and format (Kindle, NOOK) for an ebook.

Thanks to everyone for stopping by! Good luck with all those new projects!
