The Scoop from Julie Miller (April)

Dear Readers,

First of all, Happy Birthday to my mom!  And to any other April celebrants out there!

April 1 marks the release of my very first all-me anthology!  MAKE MINE A MARINE is officially out, in ebook only for now, but in several different formats.  So whether you’re Kindle or NOOK, you read on your phone or computer, etc.—if you can read digital books, you can download
Available now! Ebook only.

MAKE MINE A MARINE.  The anthology features 3 full-length romantic suspense novels featuring military heroes.  For those readers who often ask when I’m going to write a single-title length romantic suspense novel, I have!  These aren’t Precinct stories, but feature a group of former Marine Corps operatives who are now in the bodyguard business.  I hope to write a brand new story featuring one of their friends as the hero later this year.

Coming this summer!
In the meantime, there’s plenty to talk about on the Intrigue front.  KCPD PROTECTOR, the lead title for August 2014, is going to have a prequel novella available online at www.Harlequin.com all through the month of June.  I’m writing that story now.  The novella, tentatively titled THE BRIDESMAID’S BODYGUARD, will have 30 short-short chapters, with a new one published each day throughout June.  Readers can get KCPD PROTECTOR July 1st at the Harlequin website.  (August 1 through other outlets)

My next project is something brand new.  Harlequin Intrigue NOIR is the new digital-first line that Harlequin will launch this fall, and I’ve been asked to write one of the stories for their first anthology.  Intrigue NOIR is a darker, grittier, sexier version of the Intrigue romantic suspense stories readers love.  While many readers love the traditional Intrigue (and those will certainly continue!), many readers have also asked for a little more steam, a little more atmosphere in their books.  These NOIR books are for them…and anyone who’s as big a fan of romantic suspense as I am.  My story is tentatively called THE PRECINCT: AFTER DARK.  Readers will recognize familiar Kansas City settings from my fictional Fourth Precinct.  But there will be a few more curse words, a little more sex (think Blaze-ish) and some grittier themes.  I hope my readers will give the new spin-off line of Intrigue NOIR a try.

As always, be sure to check out my Contests & Fun Page http://www.juliemiller.org/contests_&_fun.htm to read an excerpt from MAKE MINE A MARINE.  And enter for a chance to win one of my backlist titles!

So, I've chatted about a variety of different types of stories I'm working on, or have written for release.  Which one are you most looking forward to, and why?  Or share about any author's book you're looking forward to reading.  I'll give away a copy of a title from my backlist (print, if I have it, or ebook--winner's choice) to one lucky poster.

Happy Reading!
Julie

  1. I'm loving the sound of them all, but the Harlequin Intrigue NOIR certainly got my attention. I enjoy a gritty read now & then.

  2. I think the NOIR is going to be fun to write. And maybe a little more modern? intense? to read? We'll see. It's exciting to be part of something brand new. (Feeling a little pressure, too--but exciting!)

Good luck with Jury Duty Julie! I think a lot of people find jury duty a drag but I bet you authors end up with story ideas by doing jury duty. I know I have read a few books that have had one or both of the main characters on a jury. Anyways I am looking forward to the novella and your newest intrigue. I tend to like my books a little sweeter so I don't know if the Intrigue Noir is going to really be my cup of tea. Plus since I don't have an e-reader I really don't read e-books. Hope everyone has a great day! Say Hi to Maggie for me. :)

  5. Ooh I can't wait to read more of your absolutely AMAZING books. You most certainly have my attention with the Intrigue NOIR line. Will have to drag my Uncle out to Wal Mart where I can get them when they come out. I'm however patiently awaiting your August Release by rereading the books I have already gathered. I must tell you that when I dive into one of your books it is like I'm one of the characters the imagery is so intense. I LOVE IT!!!! I found another fan of your books today when I was at the Doctors with my Grandma. She caught me off guard when I was writing. (Now carry notebook for my stories as a thought always comes with I least expect it) I told her that it was just a book I had started and that I normally become oblivious to the goings on around me when I write. She asked me what books and Authors I like and I mentioned you first cause you're my absolute Fave. She loves you too we got into a big discussion about you're books and the characters. We even got the office ladies in on the discussion. We just had a blast talking about the books. She wanted to read what I had written so I let her and she asked me when I was going to get it published so I have added another tally to the list of people who think I should be publishing my books. So much fun in an hours time. You're a really great Author. There are more words I could use to describe how awesome your work is but I'll sum it up as Great all though it seems so little. Really looking forward to when your novella about the Marines becomes available in Paperback at the store. Can't get enough of your books. I'm curious though is it normal to be thinking about nothing in particular then all of a sudden have a thought for a book come storming out of no where? Hope Jury Duty goes well. Best of luck for more good books :)

  8. Hey, gang--sorry I didn't get back yesterday. Jury Duty took all day, and then I had a meeting after dinner. Plus, it was my mom's birthday, so I called her and we had a long, wonderful chat.

But I will get the winner picked (Maggie's nose is a little out of joint today because I left her alone all day yesterday) as soon as I can coax her into choosing one. ;)

    Be back soon!
    Julie
