What I Love About Weddings

Weddings are the beginning of the Happily Ever After. And if you know anything about me, the HEA is the reason why I like--no love--the romance genre. It can be Sci-Fi, Historical, Futuristic, or good plain Intrigue...all I need is the HEA to be implied at the end of the story.
My niece got married Saturday. WOO HOO !  M & J are in the honeymoon phase and I hope it lasts forever. It's only been two days and I'm allowed to hope that for them. LOL. Other things I like about weddings?
  • The bling
  • The cake
  • The dancing
  • The cake
  • The flowers
  • The cake
  • Love the ceremonies that are short and to the point
  • and did I mention the Cake?
  • This new thing with photobooths is kind of fun too.
  • Oh, and original vows--must be the writer in me.
I'd like to know what you like about weddings or something unique that you've seen or experienced in your own.

For instance, the year my hubby and I got married (many moons ago) we had attended 5 weddings. Seriously, my husband had five friends get married from June to June. We knew a lot of things to NOT do by the time ours rolled around. But one of the things we changed and I still can't believe no one else does it... WE faced our friends and family. The only person with his back to them was our minister.

Share your favorite part or a unique wedding. Anyone commenting today, will be put into my next drawing...and yep, if you comment on both, that means you'll be entered twice.

  1. I love weddings too, When my husband and I got married back in 1994, we only had two attendants. My Dad was my Man of Honor and my husband's Mom was his Best Woman, My Dad did walk me down the aisle which was traditional, but was got married outside in a garden by a judge. Now that my Dad and his Mom have both passed away, I love to watch our wedding video. (So does our daughter!)

    1. I haven't watched my video in years. I might try to find it and have the hubby switch it to DVD.

      Thanks for sharing, Tammy.

  2. I love weddings. I think it is the joy and happiness of the wedding couple that make everything so special. I really like the songs that are chosen. That says so much about the couple.

The most unique wedding I ever attended was for two police officers. Their German Shepherds were the flower girl and ring bearer. The whole wedding from beginning to end lasted twenty-six minutes. A very unique wedding.

  3. My cousin decided to have a shotgun wedding in Vegas and it took one month to plan including getting a dress, making hotel reservations and figuring out which family members and friends can actually make the trip. The less than formal wedding was actually one of the nicer weddings I've attended.

I have enjoyed all the weddings I have attended. I was in one when I was 13 as the junior bridesmaid. I remember they took the pictures before the ceremony which was a little different. The most unusal wedding I attended was one for a neighbor. We didn't know about the wedding until the day of meaning only my father and I got to attend the ceremony. My brother and mother made it to the reception. The unusal part was the fact that it was Ukrainian. I was around 12 so I don't remember much of it except the food was good, we sat with complete strangers which happened to be the only other people that spoke English, and the only word of the ceremony I understood was Bible.
I really like your idea of facing your family and friends Angi. I will have to pass it along to my brother. He is getting married this October!!

    1. I still have friends who comment, "I'll never forget your wedding!" We did several unique things (and yes, we took all of our individual photos before the wedding so things would move faster afterwards). We even had a time-table and a friend who told everyone when it was their time to make announcements.

Good luck to your brother. Be certain to come back and tell me how it goes, Laura!

  5. The most unusual wedding I have attended was my neices that was at the park and was a "redneck" wedding. The groomsmen all wore camo vests and the groom had on a camo suit and my neice had a camo sash on her dress. It was fun and so far they are still happily married.

    1. I just love it when they make the wedding "THEIRS". Those are definitely the most memorable.

My father took us by surprise and prayed for us to have a good life before he sat down. Very precious memory.

  6. I hadn't really thought about it till now but I guess I've been to some unique ceremonies. One where a bride and groom got married on a platform in the middle of a swimming pool and the best man dropped the wedding ring in the water. And another where the attendees were given tambourines to shake at a designated part in the ceremony. The moment I like the most whether it's a very traditional ceremony or completely out of the box is during the bride's processional, I like to watch the groom's face. When he first spots his bride coming down the aisle (or across the water), the smile that breaks out on his face is unlike any other.

    1. That's who I took pictures of at that moment. The groom thanked me after the wedding when I showed him. He was too cute. And excited. And said, "I saw her about to cry and had to think of something funny to say to make her relax by the time she got to me. It worked."

Sure did...a little too well. She giggled throughout the entire ceremony. LOL

  7. I remember when I got married in 1992, my sister-in-law came up to me after the wedding in tears and begging my forgiveness. I couldn't begin to guess what she had done that was this bad so I told her that of course I forgave her but what did I have to forgive her for? She said that while the wedding was going on, her 2 year old son was crying and screaming because he wanted his daddy who was one of the groomsmen. She was apologizing for him ruining the wedding. I kind of laughed and said why didn't you just let him come up to his daddy? It would have been fine with me. But honestly, there was nothing to apologize for because I never even heard him. I'll never forget her doing that. I thought it was so funny because if he was screaming, I never knew it.

    1. Funny how the good parts always outweigh the "iffy" things that go wrong.

Except when camping. You always remember the bad-weather camping trips--especially thunderstorms and freezing rain.

  8. The only wedding I have been to was my sister's. Not much of a wedding... just went to the courthouse to get hitched. They had their son up with them during the ceremony holding the rings... was very quick and subdued... not the kind that I would ever want... not that I like big and flashy, but I would like the ceremony outdoors with friends and family... a beautiful cake, the dress and flowers...

    1. We sweated throughout the entire week with a threat of massive storms to our west. Finally hit yesterday--two days afterwards. But man-of-man...talk about nerve-wracking. JMHO but if you want an outdoor wedding...plan on a month that doesn't threaten tornados! LOL

  9. Weddings are just romantic...I guess that is why I love them. Ours was also funny. We had two flowergirls and two ringbearers. Cute little 3 and 4 year olds. During the singing of one of the solos, and I don't remember what song it was, the little ones stood between the minister and my groom and I and sang 'Jingle Bells' on a very warm September day. Everyone was wondering why the bride, groom and minister were trying to cover up their laughter as no one else could hear them.

    1. Too funny, Connie.

My grandson was recently a ringbearer and wanted to make certain the real rings were not on the pillow. He's seven and according to him, "too young to be responsible." He was so serious. >>grin<<
