An on-going debate by writers involves cover art.
When I was growing up, I never understood romance cover art. It just didn't make sense to me. The majority of romance readers are women, so why didn't they put half-clothed men on covers instead of what became known as "bodice rippers?"
Give me a guy with a great chest any day.
At Intrigue, we give lots of information and suggestions for our covers, but they're approved by management and we see them
I think covers have gotten much better over the years. Personally, I've only bought two books because of the cover. It lead me to two great authors. One is Dara Joy's MINE TO TAKE. I normally read the first couple of pages of a new author to see if I like their voice. But a great "shirtless" cover definitely catches my attention.
So what's your preference?

ReplyDeleteThe great cover art debate! I don't think I have a preference when it comes to shirt on or off. In fact I agree with Tammy about liking your cover better than the other cover shown. I love scenic covers as well and how can you resist a cover with a great looking guy holding a baby? My only issue with covers is when the hero/heroine etc on the cover doesn't match the description in the book. It makes me feel like the art department doesn't care about the story inside the pretty cover. However I agree that the covers coming out have been really great.

I have enjoyed a variety of covers... a sexy man without a shirt is a delight to the eyes, but not necessary inorder to catch my attention. I even like books with babies so I do not mind them on the cover...

Shirt on or off? Hum. Like both but love shirt off or open if it's only the hero on the cover. If hero and heroine than open to the waist is good. Do like kids, dogs and horses on the covers. These things will get my attention before just a landscape type cover. I don't buy just because I like the cover, I must like the blurb on the back and the short scene on the front inside page.
