End the year with a Bang!

It's the last day of the year and I haven't finished remodeling my kitchen! One of my goals was to be done by now. Ack! So today, I've set a more attainable goal of sanding the last 7 doors of the cabinets I'm refinishing. If I get that done, I'll feel good. But that leaves a whole lot of goals for the new year.

sand laundry room cabinets
sand bathroom cabinets
stain and varnish doors and cabinets
tile backsplash

And all this before I can get back to my writing! I had a little set back though that put it all in perspective. My father had a mild heart attack on Christmas Eve and was in the hospital until Sunday. I can skip a few days of refinishing my kitchen for family. I think I'm the luckiest girl in the world to have my dad as a father. He's the best. Hero-worthy. The strong silent type that has a gentle hand and a gentle heart. I'd like to keep the man around forever. The picture is of my parents getting ready for the prom over 50 years ago. Cute aren't they?

So in honor of the my hero (Dad) I'm giving away 7 books today. One for every decade of his life. All you have to do is jump out to my website at www. ellejames.com and tell me which hero you like best in one of my books in a comment. I'll choose the winners later this evening if I'm not passed out from sanding doors all day!

And I want to wish you all a Happy, Healthy New Year!

  1. I already have all your books, so don't enter me (though it's the hero from the Alaska story). I just wanted to offer hugs on the scare with your dad. I hope he recovers soon!

  2. What a lovely tribute to your dad. Of your heroes I would have to pick Craig Thibodeaux from To Kiss a Frog as the most intriguing. He is the one hero who isn't immediately able to be seen as a hero just by virtue of his job. His very make up means he has to work harder than most just to have a chance of coming out ahead. I just finished Nick of Time and loved it. Nick was clearly a hero from the first page though. Gina

  3. I agree that is a great tribute to your dad. I am new to your books but if I had to choose one hero it would have to be Reed Bryson because he seems like he would protect Mona at all costs.

  4. Elle, I'm sending your father wishes for a full and quick recovery.

The hero I like best is Cameron Morgan from Cowboy Sanctuary.

  5. Hi Elle,
Sorry to hear about your father. Hope he's feeling better. I love the picture! My Dad passed in Feb '06 and I miss him terribly.
Joe Lonewolf in LAKOTA BABY is my favorite hero.

  6. I know how you feel. I lost my dad from heart failure 20 years ago at age 76 and I was so glad I was able to see him every day. He was my hero. He and my mom had been married 50 years. I pray you have many more with your father.

  7. PS. I liked I think I liked Mac from "Beneath the Texas Moon" best. But then it was a hard decision to make.

  8. Praysers for you Dad...and that photo is great. I have not read your newest book, but Nick St. Claire is someone I want in my stocking. Great cover, and hilarious cute book blurb. I just love it. Win or not I have to have this book.

  9. Hi Elle, I hope you dad is doing better. We all could do without those things happening.

Sounds like you are coming along on your kitchen. It takes a long time to do these things. I know I have been there myself with the remodeling thing.

I am having a hard time just choosing one hero from your books, I think I like them all. Is it ok for me to choose three heros because I really liked Nick St. Claire, Joe Lonewolf and Mac McGuire. Oh well, good luck with the remodeling. I hope you have a very Happy New Year!!

  10. Hugs to you, Elle, and good thoughts for your father.

Your heroes certainly do your dad honor, and it's hard to chose from all these great stories. I think Nick Tarver of Dakota Meltdown wins my vote... today.

Don't work too hard, and have a Happy New Year!

  11. I'm a full time caregiver for my dad, an Army vet (and a full-time pre-pubbed author) so in honor of our daddies I'm going with Cameron Morgan.

PS - I'm gonna miss plotting this coming month with you and Delilah - I'll be at the hospital with pop and won't have internet access enough to keep up. Y'all are always such a hoot. Just the two of you together is worth the price of the class!

  15. Sending thoughts and prayers for your Dad. This is also a sad time for me because I lost my Dad to cancer on 1/1/98. (he was only 62) It's been over 10 years, but I still miss him so much. I too wish I could have kept him forever. I love your parents prom picture. They are so cute. As far as heros. I would take Nick in Nick of Time. I hope you didn't work too hard and that your have a restful New Year's Eve. Happy New Year.

Am so sorry to hear about your dad but am happy to know he is doing better. My father is still with us at 87. He has always been my hero and was a favorite of my friends as I was growing up.
