Meet the latest addition to my collection of teapots and teacups. It was a Christmas gift and the first I've added in a long time. I LOVE it. Very art deco, and because of all the gold trim, it goes so well with a lot of my other pieces.
When I was stationed in England in the 80s I used to take five pounds (about $7.50) to the market several times a month, and I'd always come back with a teapot or a cup or two. It was so much fun, and when I unwrapped this cup and saucer, it was like shopping in Cambridge, England, all over again.
So, what about you--is there something you collect?

Hi Delores,
ReplyDeleteI collect books (ARCs), postcards, certain magazines, bumper stickers (I especially like political ones), coins, and dust! lol!
That's a beautiful teacup and saucer. Oh, I also collect black amethyst depression glass.
Mel K.
Mel, thanks.
ReplyDeleteOh, I LOVE depression glass, and I'll bet there are some beautiful pieces done in black and amethyst.
LOL on the dust. Yep, I collect that too even though I'd rather not have that particular collection.
Cool about the bumper stickers. I'd never thought to collect those.

What a gorgeous cup and saucer.
ReplyDeleteI have several cups and saucers made in Occupied Japan, but I do not collect them. My MIL gave them to me shortly before she passed.
That is a beautiful teacup and saucer. I collect books, I don't even want to look at how many books that I have right now.
ReplyDeleteEstella, hang onto those made in Occupied Japan because they're getting more and more valuable. If one of them is a Ucagco cup, then definitely pack it away. Or sell it on ebay. ;)

Tiffany, I think books are one of the BEST things to collect. :) I used to have a lot before Katrina, and my dh had first edition copies of every Stephen King book. Unfortunately, we lost them all, but I've been replacing some of mine as I find them.

I collect two things one is red glass objects some of which are antique some are just objects d'art. I also collect frog objects and that started as a joke and grew and grew and grew and grew.
ReplyDeleteThat's a beautiful tecup and saucer. I'm not a serious collector, but I do like to collect coins, stamps and postcards.
ReplyDeleteI collect thimbles from different places. Nothing pleases me more then for someone to bring me a thimble from a different state or country. I haven't been collecting long so I only have a few, but I charish them just the same. I also collect autograph books.
ReplyDeleteEllen, I love it. Frogs and red glass!! You must be a fun person if you collect frogs because you can't help but smile when you look at them.

Jane, my daughter collects stamps, and I have a very small coin collection. A few years back, I started buying old coins with the same dates as my grandparents' b'days. Then, I did that for my husband and kids. The collection isn't worth much, but it's a cool reminder of important b'days.

Virginia, I used to see so many beautiful thimbles when I lived in England. The vendors always had them at the antique shows, and some were beautiful.

My husband would say I collect books. But my real collection is Peanuts / Snoopy things. Books, stickers, keychains - anything that catches my eye and has Snoopy on it. I buy Snoopy Christmas cards every year and then have to buy an extra box to keep.
ReplyDeleteLOL, Tammy, what a fun hobby! Those extra boxes of Snoopy cards might be valuable one day, you never know. :)

What a beautiful teacup and saucer!
ReplyDeleteMy husband would say that I collect clutter but I love teapots and have several. I also love Santas and have dozens. Oh and let's not forget angels, ballerinas, dolls, and music boxes. Oh no, maybe he is right!
My daughter told me she was collecting 1 inch angels and I spent week looking for one. Never did find one so settled on an one and a half inch angel. After she opened it she told me that she is often asked what she collects so a friend told her that if you just say angels (or whatever) you will recieve many of them of every size and look, but if you are very specific you will only be given a very precious few. Said perhaps she would have to add a half of inch angels since they were so very rare!
Connie, it's not clutter when it's a collection. ;) Music boxes--what a wonderful thing to collect.
ReplyDeleteYour daughter has such a great idea because she's right. If you just say you collect teacups, you'll get all kinds. Hmmm. I need to tell my family to look for art deco cups. My daughter will understand that, but if I said that to my sons and husband, I'd get a blank look. LOL.
I collect angel Christmas ornaments, but thankfully they're easy to find. Of course, my husband would probably say it's too bad they're easy to find because he thinks I already have too many of them.
Delores
I meant to say that one inch angels would be hard to find. I don't remember ever seeing one.

Beautiful! My mother collects teapots.
ReplyDeleteI used to collect several things but have simplified over the years and now all I collect is books.
What a beautiful teacup. My mom used to collect teapots, she loved all of them. She had some from a ton of countries around the world. I collect porcelein dolls. I have about 150 of them now.
ReplyDeleteCynthya--as a writer and big time reader, I think books are still the best thing to collect. :)
ReplyDeleteJill, porcelain dolls are so beautiful. My daughter has a few, and one day I hope she'll pass them onto her future kids.
Delores
Beautiful tea cup, I collect a lot of things, I collect angels and ladybug stuff and books of course
